Nuclear Medicine looks at organ function and tissue metabolism on a molecular level, which is the most sensitive way to detect cancer or organ dysfunction. Combining nuclear medicine with radiology modalities such as CT gives me the best of both worlds--anatomic precision combined with tissue specificity. My mission is to advance state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging of all types of cancers, brain dysfunction (such as Alzheimer's Disease), thyroid disorders including thyroid cancer therapy, and bone pain therapy for cancer patients. Having Practiced Family Medicine for ten years before training in Radiology and Nuclear Medicine has given me an added clinical perspective in Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine. Joining the staff of The University of Kansas Hospital has allowed me to take advantage of the latest advances in diagnostic technology such as the combined PET-CT scanner and associated cyclotron facility. I am currently working on a new PET isotope for detecting recurrent prostate cancer.
