Dr. Demorest's bio

This content was provided by Dr. Demorest "riginally from Penn Valley, Pennsylvania, Dr. Demorest received her undergraduate degree, cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania. She then went on to receive her medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine where she was inducted into the AOA honor society. Upon completing her residency in general pediatrics at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Dr. Demorest received fellowship training in pediatric and adolescent sports medicine at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she was a team physician for the Badgers. Prior to joining Webster Orthopedics, Dr. Demorest was Associate Medical Director of Sports Medicine at Children's Hospital & Research Center Oakland in Oakland, CA. Dr. Demorest has also served as Pediatric and Young Adult Sports Medicine Specialist in the Women's Sports Medicine Center at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, NY and Medical Director of Sports Medicine at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, DC. Dr. Demorest chose to specialize in pediatric and young adult sports medicine because she enjoys working with active, young, motivated people. Being a competitive high school and collegiate rower and having had orthopedic issues as a teenager, she was determined to find a way to reach patients that was both personal and effective at getting them back on the field, in the pool, or on the playground. As one of only 191 sports medicine pediatricians in the United States, she brings a unique perspective when it comes to youth and sports. Seeing both orthopedic and medical sports medicine issues (concussions, pre-participation issues, etc..), Dr. Demorest cares for the whole athlete. Dr. Demorest's goal with each and every patient is to listen to both child and parental concerns, discern what issues need to be addressed, and develop a treatment plan that allows the patient to be as active as possible while still treating the injury or issue. She does not believe that simply stopping an activity or resting for a time will completely resolve all orthopedic or medical sports medicine issues. Rather, via an in-depth evaluation, she tries to get to the root of the issue and take an integrated hands-on approach, utilizing physical therapy, modified training regimens, and an individualized care plan to get patients back to doing what they love the most. Prevention of future injuries is paramount in her treatment plans. When not seeing patients, Dr. Demorest enjoys rowing, running, traveling, and spending time with her husband and two young sons."
