When I was a first year medical student, my mother was rushed to the emergency room with fears of a possible heart attack. I barely understood the basic function of the heart at the time, yet I learned a valuable lesson as I sat by my mother's bed. Dealing with heart disease is an incredibly vulnerable experience. I truly consider it an honor and a privilege to work and walk alongside patients during some of the most challenging moments in their lives.
