Jimenez, M.D., FACS, is a surgical oncologist and chief of the Division of Melanoma and Soft Tissue Sarcoma Surgery at Miami Cancer Institute at Baptist Health South Florida, the region’s premier cancer treatment and research destination. He has been in practice for more than 20 years and has extensive experience utilizing innovative surgical techniques to treat complex tumors. His areas of expertise include melanoma, soft tissue sarcoma, upper gastrointestinal malignancy, and hepatobiliary and pancreatic tumors. Dr. Jimenez collaborates with the Institute’s multidisciplinary team of cancer care specialists, including pathologists, radiologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists and patient support specialists, to provide the most effective treatment plan for each individual patient. Dr. Jimenez is board certified in surgery and fellowship trained in surgical oncology at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, NY. He earned his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD, and his undergraduate degree from Yale University in New Haven, CT. His general surgery residency was completed at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA, and during his residency he was awarded a 2-year pancreatic research fellowship at Harvard Medical School. Ramon E. Jimenez joins the MCI after a distinguished career at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, CT, where he founded and directed their Division of Surgical Oncology for nearly 10 years. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, and is well known for his contributions in the field of pancreatic surgery. Dr. Jimenez has served as Connecticut State Chair for the Commission on Cancer, assistant professor of surgery at the UCONN School of Medicine, and President of the Board of Directors of the Hispanic Health Council of Hartford, CT. He is a Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the Society of Surgical Oncology, and a member of several professional medical associations. He is fluent in both English and Spanish. He listens to the classic sounds of 1970s salsa, collects original crafts from Puerto Rican artisans, and enjoys a tap-in birdie on the 18th hole on any Sunday afternoon. "
