This content was provided by Dr. Grandhi "Ramesh Grandhi, MD, is an assistant professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He serves as the Director of Neurotrauma at UTHSCSA and is also a dual trained cerebrovascular neurosurgeon, and thus can treat vascular pathologies through endovascular techniques as well as via traditional, open microsurgical approaches. In addition, his expertise in endovascular approaches has allowed him to have significant experience in treating patients with stroke, ranging from therapies involving carotid and intracranial stenting to mechanical thrombectomy for acute strokes. Dr. Grandhi received his undergraduate degree from Duke University, after which, he obtained a masters degree in physiology and biophysics at Georgetown University. He later attended medical school at the Medical College of Virginia of Virginia Commonwealth University, where he was elected AOA. Dr. Grandhi did his residency in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania within the Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where he completed an infolded fellowship in Interventional Neuroradiology. He then obtained further subspecialty training in Cerebrovascular Neurosurgery as a fellow at the Baptist Neurological Institute in Jacksonville, Florida. Dr. Grandhi has authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications and neurosurgery book chapters. His clinical and research interests pertain to the fields of cerebrovascular neurosurgery and neurotrauma, specifically traumatic brain injury and blunt cerebrovascular injury. Furthermore, having been a high school teacher prior to medical school, he is highly interested and involved in teaching medical students and residents. He is proud to have joined the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and is committed to developing the program to deliver excellent neurosurgical care and serve the population of San Antonio, and beyond.
