Dr. Ralph Tufano, MD

Anyone in northern VA or DC diagnosed with thyroid cancer should take the drive to Baltimore to see Dr. Tufano because he offers the most skilled, informed, and personalized treatment available. I live in northern VA and initially sought treatment in DC, but I could not find anything near the quality of care he and Johns Hopkins provided. Dr. Tufano meticulously reviewed my case and presented the pros and cons of a total versus partial thyroidectomy. During our first visit, he even took time to do ultrasound imaging of my thyroid and lymph nodes himself! Importantly, he demonstrated that he stays current on the latest medical research and American Thyroid Association guidelines, which directly related to the extent of surgery required for my case. I could not be more satisfied with the partial thyroidectomy he performed and our plan to actively monitor the remaining lobe; I consider my choice to go the extra distance to see Dr. Tufano the best health decision I have made to date.

Dr. Tufano saved my life. I had a thyroid cancer that was quite invasive and his delicate surgery skills was able to remove the cancer and literally save me.

He is an amazing surgeon and his staff is just as wonderful as he is. After a botched surgery by another surgeon, Dr. Tufano along with Dr. Russell put my health and my life back on track. They are extremely talented and reassuring. They are easy to talk too and although I had a 7 hour surgery where my life or quality of life was in question, I entered into that surgery very relaxed and confident in their abilities.
