A native of Alabama, Dr. Roden was born and raised in Albertville. He attended Auburn University where he received a B.S. in Pre-health, Zoology. In 2002 Dr. Roden graduated from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry. He received many honors including the coveted Dean's Medal given to one graduating dental student, selected by the Dean of the Dental School annually, based on academic, service, and leadership accomplishments. He was also inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the dental honor fraternity. After dental school, Dr. Roden started his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at UAB. This was a six year program. During this residency, Dr. Roden completed medical school and was awarded an M.D. degree in 2005. He received specialized training in surgical principles, medicine, oral and facial surgery, trauma surgery, general surgery, and anesthesia. He spent one year as a chief resident in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at UAB and completed his residency in 2008. He then entered an academic practice at UAB as an assistant professor. In May of 2010, Dr. Roden joined the long respected Oral Surgery practice of Dr. H. Newton Burton. Dr. Roden is an active member of several professional organizations including The Birmingham District Dental Society, Alabama Dental Association, American Dental Association, UAB School of Dentistry Alumni Association, McCallum Alumni Association, Alabama Oral Surgery Association, Southeastern Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He holds licenses in dentistry and medicine in Alabama. Dr. Roden is board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Roden has published several articles discussing various Oral Surgery topics. He has also given lectures locally and regionally. Dr. Roden is married to Melissa Talbert of Pensacola, FL.They live with their son and daughter in the Birmingham area. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, bird hunting, and fishing.
