Dr. Reeder Jr's bio

This content was provided by Dr. Reeder Jr "Dr. Ralph Reeder is a native of the St. Louis region and has now lived in Siouxland for over 20 years. He graduated from a 5 year neurosurgical residency program after completing 2 years of general surgery training and a year of research studying brain edema (brain swelling after injury), at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover, New Hampshire. While there, he served on the medical school faculty as an instructor in anatomy and became a reluctant, but enthusiastic Boston Red Sox fan, rooting for them still today (except when they play his beloved 2011 World Champion Cardinals). On arriving in Sioux City, Dr. Reeder participated in caring for the United Airlines 242 crash victims and introduced image-guided stereotactic brain surgery techniques to the hospitals. With partners, he is a co-founder of the Center for Neurosciences, Orthopaedics and Spine, PC (CNOS) and has helped advance surgical expertise in both cranial and spinal care. His interests in image guided and "mini-open" techniques, result in better precision and less tissue injuries for the patient during spinal surgery. Early in his career, he served 3 years as a moderator for the "Ask the Doctor" weekly KTIV newscast. He also participated as a lecturer for many medical conferences in our area, serving as faculty for the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine. In addition to medical practice, Dr. Reeder has served as a board member for Mercy Medical Center, is an active board member of CNOS, is the President of Dunes Surgical Hospital, LLC and is Chairman of PhyCare, LLC (a physician and hospital services provider company). He has been a founding board member for the Sioux City Chapter of the Ronald McDonald House and has served on the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce and the Siouxland Initiative committees. He holds several patents for medical devices designed to prevent "flat-head syndrome." Nationally he serves on the joint committee Quality Improvement Workforce of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons/Congress of Neurological Surgeons. Dr. Reeder has enjoyed making Siouxland his home and is looking forward to implementing successful health care reform and providing quality programs to the community for years to come."
