san diego, ca |
Dr Hanson is very personable & after talking to 4 other doctors, he had the best bedside manner. Very open, patient & able to convey just enough about the surgery. I appreciate I can get xrays right there (instead of another trip & wait to an imaging center). I had hip surgery scheduled & thankfully went for a last opinion on a posterior cut which I was to told I had to have. Dr. Hanson does anterior incision, which I am a candidate for so I switched to Dr Hanson. Friendly office!

I recently had a total replacement of my right hip by Dr. Hanson. To say that I am pleased by the outcome, would be a total understatement! Every step in the process ... from the Joint Education program, to our pre-op conversation, my post-op recovery, my hospital stay (and numerous walks around the nurses station), my very quick recovery, and post-op follow up visit ... have all gone way better than I had expected! Highly recommend this guy and his wonderful staff!
in Chula Vista, CA |

I was turned away from many Drs due to the complexity of the care that I needed. Dr Hanson stepped in to help me

Dr. Hanson's Care Philosophy

My father was a physician at Grossmont Hospital starting in 1960, so medicine and Grossmont Hospital are both in my blood. I knew that becoming a physician would give me the academic and professional fulfillment I needed while being able to live in the same environment in which I grew up. My goal is to provide you with the best possible care in a friendly and professional atmosphere and to treat my patients with the same respect I would want for my family and friends.

Dr. Hanson says...

Dr. Hanson's practice revolves primarily around arthritic conditions and injuries involving the hip and knee. Philosophically, all patients are treated as conservatively as possible, with surgery being a last resort. Treatments provided in Dr. Hanson's office include injections of medications such as cortisone, Ketorolac, Prolotherapy, and PRP under Ultrasound guidance.  Physical Therapy, bracing, and other modalities are also provided.  Finally, we also have access to medications and stem cell therapies available only through investigational protocols with BioSolutions Clinical Research Center and the San Diego Stem Cell Treatment Center. If none of those work, or are not desired by the patients, Dr. Hanson is a leading expert in Arthroscopy and Joint Replacement Surgery.  He is fellowship trained, and is Medical Director of the Joint Replacement programs at Grossmont Hospital, as well as the Associate Medical Director for the programs at Sharp Memorial and Sharp Coronado Hospitals.

Dr. Hanson says...

Dr. Hanson finished his residency, and then followed his passion for joint reconstruction into a fellowship at Scripps Clinic.  He has focused on that since then, both clinically and from a research standpoint, in his 25 years at Grossmont Orthopaedic Medical Group which has been serving patients in San Diego for 45 years.

Dr. Hanson's surgical expertise includes the direct anterior hip replacement approach, which he has been performing as his exclusive hip approach since 2004 after being trained in the technique by Dr. Joel Mata. He has performed over 800 of them, and never has considered going back after seeing the short and long term results in his patients.

His other niche specialty is partial knee replacements using the Mako Robotic arm system.  He is the leading expert in San Diego County in these procedures, which include medial, lateral, and patello-femoral replacements.  Again, his optimized results have reinforced his decision to use this technique exclusively.
