      Why Does Experience Matter?

Even specialists specialize. One orthopedic surgeon might do nothing but hip surgeries, while another does nothing but knees. If you want the best possible care, it’s critical to match your medical need with the doctor who truly specializes in treating it.

      Dr. Hanson's Care Philosophy

My father was a physician at Grossmont Hospital starting in 1960, so medicine and Grossmont Hospital are both in my blood. I knew that becoming a physician would give me the academic and professional fulfillment I needed while being able to live in the same environment in which I grew up. I have always provided general orthopedic care through the office and the Emergency Room at Sharp Grossmont Hospital. I provide subspecialized care to the greater San Diego area in the areas of partial and total knee replacement, knee arthroscopy, and anterior hip replacement surgery. More recently I became one of the first orthopaedist to provide Stem Cell therapy and FDA-sponsored investigational treatments for Orthopaedic conditions. Being an empty nester, I am just trying to discover what spare time is, but it turns out my practice just expanded instead. I love ocean fishing and anything else fun I can do with my kids, my wife, and my friends.
