Lutherville, MD |
Dr. Sponseller was amazing with our 8-year old son who broke his elbow. He has such a calm, focused demeanor and answered all of our questions. We felt very comfortable working with him.

I might be Dr. Sponseller's longest patient. He monitored my bracing through school and operated on me twice. At every stage of my treatment, as a measure of precaution I always sought other opinions, but Dr. Sponseller's the only one I trusted. More than being a fantastic spinal surgeon, he's a good person. He responded to emails and calmed my emotional family during trying times. He goes above and beyond and what has traditionally been the worst appointments are somehow better with him.
Ashburn, VA |
Dr. Sponseller performed spinal fusion surgery on our daughter for scoliosis. We selected him for our daughter's treatment primarily because of his reputation in the field of pediatric scoliosis and his experience with this type of surgery. He did an excellent job, both in and out of the operating room. In the pre-surgery visits, he answered all of our questions with patience and was responsive to emails any time we had a question. He checked on her every day during her hospital stay.

We saw Dr. Sponseller at Mount Washington, all I can say he is amazing. I have been taking my daughter all over. He took one look at her and knew she had a very mild case of cerebral palsy. He calmed our family nerves and reassured us that with small interventions she would be fine.
Windsor Mill, MD |
We travel all the way from Maine to see Dr. Sponseller! My son has a rare orthopedic genetic difference and Autism. Dr. Sponseller has been caring for my son since 2006. We have complete confidence in his medial skills. He is worth traveling 500 miles for!
Towson, MD |
Since our son's very first appointment with Dr. Sponseller, we felt completely at ease with his explanations and answers to all our questions. He spoke to our teenage son about his options and at the end of his appointment handed him his business card with his contact information, offering to answer any additional questions that may come up after leaving his office. He was also very attentive after the surgery, and his staff has always been very helpful and friendly.

Fantastic Surgeon. He did a fabulous job with my daughters back and we couldn't have been happier with the hospital. Our nurses were top notch. The hospital has ur nurse working so that she is ur day nurse for practically the entire time u r there. This makes ur stay very comfortable knowing that the same person gets to know u a little. Dr. Sponsellar makes rounds very early and is an outstanding physician. I would recommend him highly.
in Olney, MD |
My daughter's pediatrician noticed the onset of scoliosis when she was in middle school and recommended that we see Dr. Sponseller. At that time he recommended that we watch to see if surgery would be needed later. It was and surgery was done a few days after she finished the 10th grade. We've always been very pleased with the care and concern that Dr. Sponseller and all of his staff has shown and the way they communicated with us.
in Frederick, MD |
My daughter had severe scoliosis and had a spinal fusion back in 2007. The surgery itself the day of went well. About 3 months after surgery, my daughter was having a lot of pain. We spent a lot of time doing PT, injections, nerve burnings, etc. to only have no relief. My disappointment comes with feeling Dr. Sponsellar has not made more of an effort to figure out why she is in so much pain. All I get is "things are structurally sound." My daughter is now 24 and still in a lot of pain.
in Germantown, MD |
I would recommend this Dr to EVERYONE! I could not have had a better, more compassionate man to perform my daughters back surgery. Bedside manner is exquisite. Gentle, humble and intelligent Doctor.
Frederick, MD |
My daughter was diagnosed with scoliosis in 6th grade. She began seeing Dr. Sponseller at that point. He continued with her care up to and including eventual scoliosis surgery the summer after her sophomore year in HS. We always felt in good hands with Dr. Sponseller and his staff. We were confident that he was up to date in the research and treatment of scoliosis. And particularly felt in good hands with her surgery.
in Mount Airy, MD |
Our daughter was under the care of Dr. Sponseller for just under a year for scoliosis. Her curve grew aggressively and she needed surgery to correct it. Dr. Sponseller performed the surgery. Every visit with Dr. Sponseller was informative and reassuring. We knew exactly what our options were and he didn't mind all of our questions. The only downside was the wait every time we went for an appointment at John Hopkins. We hope when we go back for her 1 yr checkup things will be more efficient.
in Belcamp, MD |
At age 5 our daughter was diagnosed with early onset severe scoliosis. Rather than subjecting her to a restrictive brace he observed her scoliosis progression and only recommended surgery for placement of growth rods when it was necessary. She had multiple growth rod distraction surgeries afterwards to assure her spine would remain as straight as possible until she was done growing. Now at ate 14 her spine is almost perfectly straight and no more surgeries. Highly recommend Dr Sponseller.
Clarksville, MD |
He has cared for our daughter since she had an accident and seriously broke her leg in an unusual location. We believe his care has made the difference in the outcome. We know another family who had very similar experiences with him when he cared for their child. In fact, when they found out he was caring for ours they told us in confidence not to worry. We worry of course, but not because of the medical care. His staff is also the best we have ever experienced.
