Dr. Richards' bio

This content was provided by Dr. Richards "After spending two years in practice in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Dr. Richards and his wife Joan (a native of Southwest Florida) moved back to the area to enjoy more time with family. They are blessed with three beautiful children. Dr. Richards is a founding partner of Orthopedic Specialists of SW Florida and together with Dr. Antonio Flores established our Hand & Upper Extremity Center."

Care Philosophy

This content was provided by Dr. Richards "The Orthopedic Specialists of SW Florida practice philosophy is to treat early with noninvasive, conservative treatments for degenerative conditions. Conservative treatments include a splint to immobilize the joint, analgesic medications for pain, and cortisone injections. Simple measures may accomplish the goal of pain relief.

Optimal treatment depends on a complex analysis of the patient's condition. For arthritis that affects the hand, wrist or elbow, surgery is only appropriate when conservative therapies are insufficient to relieve pain or improve function. For nerve or tendon problems, minimally invasive procedures are often appropriate to prevent permanent loss of function. When we recommend surgery, we do so to avoid the risk of disease progression and permanent disability. Treatment options are determined on a case-by-case basis."

Dr. Richards is an extremely knowledgeable and caring specialist that is becoming a dying breed in this modern medical climate.
