Dr. Pamela McGarrah moved to the Palestine area in 2014 from Harrison, Arkansas, where she was in private practice for 13 years. Dr. McGarrah holds a BA in microbiology from the University of Arkansas, where she graduated with honors, and was named the outstanding microbiology student. She did research there with Dr. Timothy Kral on the common mouth bacteria, Streptococcus mutans, and its utilization of aspartame as a metabolic substrate. Dr. McGarrah graduated in the top 1/3 of her class from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock with a MD degree in 1991. She was awarded a HPSP scholarship for medical school from the US Army and completed her internship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. Her Otolaryngology / Head and Neck Surgery residence was completed in San Antonio, TX at Brooke Army Medical Center and Wilford Hall Air Force Medical Center, where she completed 2 years of general surgical residency, and 3 years of Otolaryngology / Head and Neck Surgery residency. During residency, she did research on rhabdomyosarcoma of the head and neck, and allographic cartilage implants for the head and neck. After residency, she worked for 3 years as Assistant Chief of Otolaryngology at Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Augusta, GA, before moving to Arkansas to set up a solo private practice. Dr. McGarrah holds both a Texas and an Arkansas medical license, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy. She is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology and is Board Certified in her specialty. Dr. McGarrah practices general ENT of otolaryngology, with an interest in allergy testing and treatment. She offers evaluation, treatment and surgery for ear problems, tonsil and adenoid, sinus and nasal problems, voice problems, neck masses and hearing evaluation. All ages of patients are accepted. Dr. McGarrah and her family are happy to return to Texas, where her daughter is attending University of Texas at Austin. Her husband, Mark, is a mechanical engineer and business owner, and she has 3 children, 2 in college and one who lives at home. Dr. McGarrah and her family have settled in the Frankston community, where she is close to both Palestine and Athens.
