Dr. Mufti's bio

This content was provided by Dr. Mufti "Omar Mufti, MD, is an interventional cardiologist with particular expertise in endovascular procedures. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and was raised in the Midwest. His family moved back to their native Pakistan when he was thirteen years old. That is where his love for medicine grew. After excelling and graduating at the top of his class, he was accepted to a prestigious government medical college, Ayub Medical College, in northern Pakistan. Following the completion of his medical school, in which he graduated in the top five percent of his class, he decided to return to the United States for further training and specialization. He completed his internship and medicine residency at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio in 2009. He excelled during residency and was offered the position of Chief Resident of Internal Medicine, which he enthusiastically accepted. This allowed him to continue with his passion for teaching and medical education. Dr. Mufti then served as an attending hospitalist physician at Miami Valley Hospital, a 700 bed Level I Trauma Center, in Dayton, Ohio. During that time he continued to work closely with medical residents and as he pursued his dream of becoming a cardiologist. In 2011, he began the next phase of career by starting a fellowship in cardiovascular disease at Wright State University. He helped create the foundations of that cardiology fellowship and through his hard work, dedication, and passion for education he was chosen to be Chief Cardiology Fellow. Following completion of his cardiovascular disease fellowship in 2014, Dr. Mufti pursued a second fellowship in interventional cardiology at University of Connecticut, Hartford Hospital. During that year he was exposed to all areas of interventional, endovascular, and structural cardiology. He became proficient at coronary and endovascular interventions. He was also involved in new treatment strategies for valvular heart disease including trans-aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and percutaneous mitral valve repair therapy (MitraClip). Dr. Mufti is well published and has presented abstracts at national conferences including the annual American College of Cardiology (ACC), Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions (SCAI), and the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) meetings. He has papers published in peer reviewed journals such as the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC), Journal of Invasive Cardiology (JICE), and the Indian Heart Journal. He has also served on various hospital and educational committees during his training, including the Internal Medicine Residency Evaluation and Promotion Committee, Resident Education Committee, Chief Resident of the Miami Valley Resident Clinic, and member of the Ohio ACC Fellow in Training (FIT) Council. He also the integral part of the Congestive Heart Failure Management Program Workgroup at Miami Valley Hospital, which helped devise a way to appropriately treat and manage chronic heart failure patients with improved communication between the hospitalist service and the cardiovascular services. After the completion of his training in June 2015, Dr. Mufti decided to try something new and decided to move out west to Redding, California to join the nationally renowned Dr. Mohamed Khan at the Cardiovascular Center. He sees patients at Shasta Regional Medical Center and is accepting new patients at the Cardiovascular Center."

Dr Mufti neglected to manage my husband’s heart failure according to the standard of care. Therefore, I I asked that he not be the hospitalist on my case after my NSTEMI. As a result no other cardiologist would treat me and I was discharged!!!
