We have certain technologies available to us that actually allow us to see into areas that aren't visible with conventional instruments, for example a fiber-optic examination of the nose or the nasal pharynx or the larynx and vocal chords. And this allows us to make a more thorough and complete examination, and as a result, a better diagnosis and hopefully better management in the long term of the problem. A lot of patients who are coming to see me are coming after they have not had success with some other treatments. I try to maximize their medical therapy prior to embarking upon a surgical option. I think that with the majority of nasal and sinus disorders you can treat them either way. And if you can take somebody who's always having symptoms from something and minimize those symptoms - make them negligible, make them so that they're not even thinking about them - then you've done your job.
