He places a great value on creating a professional relationship with each of his patients, and explaining all diagnoses and treatment options. Dr. Cleaveland is pleased to offer no-stitch cataract surgery, including treatment of age-related difficulty with near vision (presbyopia) and astigmatism during cataract surgery using advanced technology lens implants and the LenSx Laser. A true Tar Heel from Sylva, North Carolina, Dr. Cleaveland received his undergraduate degrees from UNC-Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Bachelor of Arts in English. He earned his Medical degree with Honors from Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine at Virginia Tech, and completed both a Medical Internship and Surgical Ophthalmology Residency training at Michigan State University at Metro Health Hospital. There he was recognized with multiple awards for surgical skill, and served as Chief Resident and Associate Clinical Instructor."
