Didn't recognize wrong diagnosis
I was recommended to see Dr. Kohler after my initial psychiatrist who diagnosed me Bipolar retired. I was Dr. Kohler's patient for ~5 years till I finally tapered off meds before becoming an adult. After a decade without the meds I found out I NEVER was Bipolar! I only had a manic episode after the original psychiatrist (not Dr. Kohler) gave me meds for ADHD that caused it. After a few years of therapy with a trauma therapist and a healthy life style I've been actually addressing the past trauma. The whole time it was trauma related and the meds just paused the emotions but did nothing to address the core problem. I realize it was also my old psychiatrist and care takers who also are partially to blame. Dr. Kohler was always nice and listed but that's something ANYONE in this role should be able to do. She totally missed that it wasn't bipolar. I am only speaking from my experience. I was on meds for years under her care for something I never had. I no longer trust psychiatrists.
