Medically proficient, administratively inept
Knows cardio-pulmonary medicine, but his administrative skills, like ordering follow-on tests and scans is lacking - to the detriment of his patients. That's not likely to change as any effort on the patient's behalf to rectify this liability is met with rationalizations and excuses. My wife was in the hospital for ten days with pneumonia. She saw Dr. Ali all during that time. He wanted her to get a CT scan. On the afternoon prior to the appointment to get the scan she was called to cancel because no pre-authorization was obtained by the insurance. No order had been submitted for the scan. When my wife went in for a consult - after having gotten a scan on her own (and paying for it herself because insurance could not turn it around fast enough to pre-authorize), her appointment with Dr. Ali was less than satisfying. He had not looked at the scan prior to the appointment, and when he saw it he started backpedaling fast, and making excuses, saying it was our confusion. Stay away.

Good doctor, terrible staff
I called the office 5 times in 10 days and never received a call back. The staff is not knowledgeable and they are uncaring. I even had to show the nurse how to use a blood pressure cuff.

Dr. Ali is great. I had the occasion to meet him through a hospital visit where he was the on-call physician. I was also in need of a new pulmonologist. Called to make an appointment and was given one that was like 7 weeks out. I had also just switched jobs and ultimately new insurance literally days before my appointment and I did not yet have my new ID cards. Tried speaking with the office staff to see if they could look up my info and they were not able to without the ID#. Asked about postponing my appointment then and was told it would now be in February. I don't care how good Dr. Ali is - his office staff is useless and very uncaring! Not a problem though, there are plenty of other great Doctors in Pinellas County.

The doctor is very good. Better than most in Pinellas County. However, I don't think he knows how inept his staff is and failure to do their job. They are all very nice but nice doesn't cut it. I had problems from the get-go with the office not letting me know about an authorization for simple chest x-ray which had to be rescheduled. There was the authorization for the visit that they didn't get to the PCP until a few days before the visit which caused havoc. My visit was booked almost 3 months ago. I overlooked those issues but was after the visit where the big problems began. I was promised I would get my new meds called in that day. It has been over 48 hours and CVS does not have the prescriptions. I have called 3x and can't get anybody but the answering service. I left a message with the office manager and have not received a call back. I am almost out of my other inhaler which I did not get refilled because I was getting a new medicine. Didn't get requisition for chest CT.??

If we could give this office a zero we would. Unprofessional! During Covid-19 medical offices take extra precautions. Therefore if everyone in their office must wear a mask; then everyone in their office must wear a mask. We witnessed people within the office "not" wearing mask!. A sign on the wall clearly stated due to Covid-19 that only the patient could go back to the examining area. Between the limited mask wearing and the sign, we left. My husband asked for our disk back and we were told the doctor was reviewing it. He explained we wanted it back now. Was told no. We walked out the door and a receptionist followed us explaining they were having computer problems. We explained that was not the issue. The receptionist then told us after vitals were taken anyone could go back. They might want to 1. make up their minds as to office rules and precautions. 2. They might want to clarify their posted policies. Oh and 3. They might want to actually put a viable sign on

I have worked with Dr. Ali on and off for years. I have always found him to be a caring, empathic, knowledgeable doctor. He knows how to listen and how to explain things so I can make informed decisions. The fact he has a specialty in internal, pulmonary and cardiovascular medicine makes me feel I am getting a doctor who looks at my issue from all critical angels.

At Northside hospital. Called him on Sat 7/20 no return call till Wed 7/25. Didn't now what was going on with my Mother. Worse recommendation Blamed his office staff but I know the nurses also called him, with no call. I found his explanation useless, my mother became worse under his care, or uncare. Gave her pain meds, morphine for what??? She was scared so he basically knocked her out. So very unhappy and very sad for my Mother who now is being sent to critical care at Hospice. No good drs.

I was hospitalized for high blood pressure. Dr. Ali ordered a brain MRI which showed a previously diagnosed brain aneurysm. The MRI showed the aneurysm to be stable but he scared my family into thinking it could be bleeding and ordered an unnecessary cerebral angiogram. That resulted in my being hospitalized for 3 weeks and needing months to recover.

I was in the hospital for heart related issues and this doctor kept coming in to see me telling me they wanted to remove my gal bladder and asking me if I was still in pain. I was never in any pain but he kept asking me that. I ended up doing a test to say that my gal bladder was fine and he still came in a said that he was concerned about it even though the test said otherwise. I finally told him I was done talking about it. At least he didn't take anything but my money.

Dr. Ali is a very thorough doctor. However, his office staff & sleep study coordinator(Raymond) are arrogant, rude and incompetent. They actually went out of their way to make my care difficult. They refused to forward my medical records, return phone calls or cooperate in any way. It's too bad because Dr. Ali was so nice.
