Pro athletes go to Europe to receive only part of the care available right here! Precise understanding of the many causes of chronic pain, whether cartilage, ligament, tendon, muscle, or nerve injury, tight tissues, internal scarring, or malalignment of bones is what allows Dr. Cohn to ACCURATELY DIAGNOSE & thus select the most effective treatment(s). Previously a chronic pain-sufferer, himself, Dr. Cohn truly cares. He understands what you are dealing with daily. His complex, unique skill set-shared by only a few doctors WORLD-WIDE-& his compassion, make his services special for those suffering chronic pain.Read more

Dr. Cohn says...

Dr. Cohn received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 1981.  In 1986, he received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines, Iowa.  After doing a traditional osteopathic internship at the Community Health Center of Branch County, Coldwater, Michigan – a Michigan State University-affiliated program, he subsequently received post-graduate training in Family Medicine, Biomechanics, and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine through programs at Michigan State University.

For much of his career, Dr. Cohn was in a solo private practice in general medicine with special interests in the field of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine and the treatment of pain and neurologic and musculoskeletal injury.  He was also the founder and chief medical legal consultant for 2 legal medicine consulting firms.  He is also an award-winning author and has had his work published in professional journals.

In addition to typical osteopathic medical training, Dr. Cohn has extensive knowledge and expertise in hands-on manipulative treatment and evaluation.  His treatments are not limited to the typical 'cracking' techniques employed by many osteopathic doctors and chiropractors.  His toolkit also includes a wide variety of soft treatment techniques including functional, myofascial release, strain-counterstrain, cranial osteopathy,  and craniosacral techniques.  He also places a great deal of emphasis on finding and treating the very subtle and often gradual changes in a person's body which can lead to great pain and dysfunction.  He emphasizes finding the root problem from which a person's pain stems, rather than just treating the symptoms.

Dr. Cohn has experienced a great deal of success in treating acute and chronic pain such as headaches, neck pain, upper and lower back pain, TMJ problems, musculoskeletal chest pain, chest-wall pain, post-surgical chest pain, failed-back syndrome (post-laminectomy or discectomy pain), and even structurally-induced neuropathic and radicular pain of the limbs.

Dr. Cohn is also the author of several books including a book on parenting; "The Osteopathy and the Zombie Apocalypse" books (available on Amazon); Marijuana: the Better, Safer Alternative (comparing the clinical effects and efficacy of medical marijuana vs. narcotics), and a popular free booklet, "Treatments for Chronic Pain that Actually Work!  A Concise Introduction to OMM and Prolotherapy".

Dr. Cohn speaks to general audiences; high school, college and pre-medical students and pain patients introducing them to Osteopathic Medicine, principles, and practice.  He works to enlighten patients, doctors, and other medical personnel about osteopathic medicine, in general, to encourage students to investigate osteopathy as a career choice, and to inform patients about alternative treatments, especially for chronic pain. Most recently, he has been an invited speaker by a branch of the French Academy of Medicine which studies alternative therapies.  He can even be engaged for speaking at your events.

Most importantly, Dr. Cohn raised a pack of beautiful and intelligent children who are now all adults.  He is a proud grandfather of 2.  Most importantly, he wants to thank the love of his life - a late-comer, but the center of his late-life joy - his beautiful, intelligent, artistic, and gifted wife, Elena, whom many of you may meet as she is also my assistant and boss at Integrative Pain Solutions.
