While Dr Arenas is very competent, don't expect to ever see him other than right after your scope. It seems to be the staff at the front desks job to keep patients from speaking to doctors and nurse practitioners. By the time they get you a referral for a test and then get back to you with test results, it's 4 - 6 weeks at which point in time you have to schedule another appt (usually 30 days out), pay more money, just to say "symptoms are the same..what next".

He will only do your procedures. Care is very disjointed. I'm on my third NP this year. He doesn't call patients back when they gave urgent issues. The office staff is either incompetent or apathetic. I wish I hadn't stayed with him so long. I could have been helped better by another office. Any other office. Don't bother looking up his health grades. You won't see him. Look up his NP's.

Dr. Arenas is a good procedure doctor. The only time you get to talk to him is at the conclusion of the procedure and you are barely awake. He is not a "patients" doctor. Went in with a diagnosis of anemia and ended up telling me to take anti acid pills. The first visit was with a NP and the follow up was with an NP. Tried to get an appointment with him and was told that he does not make patient appointments.

When calling to schedule a colonoscopy the office staff of Mesquite Gastroenterology does not explain that a separate office visit is required and billed apart from the procedure. Also not explained is that the procedure must be scheduled within 30 days or another billed visit is required. The doctor and medical staff did a fine job, however, the office staff needs more training or patients like me are left with a bitter opinion when we recieve a surprise billing...

I am disappointed with the response that I was given when I asked to speak Jacky, was that Dr. Arenas would call me himself. I called back a few hours after not receiving the promised return call and the office was closed until the next day. The call was in reference to a real problem I was having, and needed advice from the doctor or his assistant. This was in reference to a prescription that he had given to me and after taking the meds as prescribed, I was having extreme difficulty.

I first met Dr. Arenas at TMC while I was there for a colon issue. After being released from the hospital I was advised to have a endoscopy and colonoscopy which Dr. Arenas performed. I like his manor and the way he treated me. I felt he was warm and had empathy for me. The staff was really good. A few minor things they got screwed up a bit. But all and all a good experience
