Care Philosophy

This content was provided by Dr. Wilmink "A Message from Michael Wilmink, M.D. At six years old, I decided I wanted to be a "Brain Surgeon". I obviously didn't know what that meant at that age. I played water polo from a very young age and at age 15 started playing on the national team. I played on that team through my third year in medical school. We traveled around the world to play and always had our team physicians with us. The exposure to that profession peaked my interest. The sports side of the profession and the daily problem-solving confirmed my decision to go into orthopedic surgery. Nothing ever presents the same in orthopedics. I like getting people back to doing what they love. I have a commitment to my patients to get them back to where they want to be. The best day for me is when I see a patient walk into my office that was in ICU for 3 months and we didn't know if that person would live or die. You become emotionally involved with those patients. I treat my patients like family. First and foremost, I'm interested in you as a person. My first question when you come into my office is about what you do, what you enjoy doing, not about your injury. But paying attention to the personal side doesn't mean that I am not in touch with the latest orthopedic techniques."

Dr. Wilmink is an outstanding surgeon. He is very careful at what he does. He listens and is very detailed in the care he gives. He stays very current and up to date in all the latest information so his patients get the best that is available. He did an amazing job replacing both my knees and helping me get my life back. He gives his best and he has an excellent assistant Adrianne and they make a great team.

Two years ago I met Dr. Wilmink regarding my options for my knee. Throughout the process, leading up to my surgery 2 months ago, Dr. Wilmink kept me informed of my current status and encouraged me to try different therapies until I was ready for surgery. When that time came he patiently answered all my questions and understood my concerns about infection and future mobility. I have made terrific progress, with much physical therapy, and am ready to resume all my normal activities.

Excellent orthopaedist ! Has done a total hip replacement and an arthroscope on my knee. Excellent results. Highly recommend this physician.

I've had a horrible time getting an appointment. I've been approved for injections in my knees but was bumped off the schedule by his medical assistant because SHE had to verify that it was approved by my insurance. I've tried calling her for a week and only get her voice mail. The front desk is no help getting her to return my phone calls. I've tried reaching the office manager with the same (no) luck. I've left message after message and no return phone calls.

I had total left knee replacement. It was amazing. I had no pain whatsoever after the surgery and never had to take any pain meds. I was walking cane free day three and playing full golf week 7. I had no trouble getting appointments, initial or several follow-ups. He is the most punctual doctor I have ever seen: I was always taking in within five minutes and never waited more than five minutes for him. On follow-ups, INSIST on seeing him, not his PA. and Oasis Hospital is WONDERFUL.

I have had 5 surgical operations on my knees with Doctor Wilmink, the last being a total knee replacement using the Signature brand method. The doctor has always been available for me and my family and has provided the best care I could find anywhere. The bedside manner, office staff and medical assistants have always treated me with respect and followed up with me when required. I have referred 4 friends to Dr. Wilmink all of which liked his approach and quality of diagnosis and treatment.

Dr. Wilmink replaced both my left knee and right hip. He is an outstanding surgeon, and his team of medical professionals (especially his P.A.) are thorough, and outstanding. I have returned to the gym with full force, and total movement. I am deeply grateful Dr. Wilmink has given me the ability to return to a normal life, and the ability to function. Thank you with deep appreciation. Robert L. Cannon
Buckeye, AZ |
Very difficult to get an appointment. Didn't spend enough time at visits. Doesn't offer many treatment options. Minimal communication. One of his MA's totally useless. Doesn't read faxes or complete reports/medical information from previous surgeries. Will not keep this dr. Is pleasant.
in Tempe, AZ |
Had excellent experience having total knee replacement by Dr. Wilmink. The procedure went well with minimal pain and discomfort, had quick and complete recovery. Throughout the process Dr. Wilmink kept me informed made sure all my questions were answered. The office staff at Arizona Orthopedic Associates very efficiently handled all the scheduling, paperwork, pre-op exams and clearances, etc.
in Fountain Hills, AZ |
Dr. Wilmink has replaced both of my hips. Each time I was up walking the same day and released from the hospital the following day. I had an excellent result both times. Dr. Wilmink has tremendous knowledge, wisdom and skill. He and his entire staff are very caring and professional. The after care was wonderful. I would highly recommend Dr. Wilmink.
