Dr. Sternberg's bio
This content was provided by Dr. Sternberg "I studied biology and philosophy at Stanford University, graduating with a Bachelors of Science degree. Studying both the physical sciences and social sciences, I learned the importance of knowledge in both realms. This informs my clinical style; knowledge of medication effects and side effects, listening closely with compassion, and the determination to reach a goal of 100% improvement, with no further symptoms. I developed a clinical research center, which gave me the opportunity to participate in drug studies that led to FDA approval of medications for treatment resistant depression and ADHD (I was a principal investigator of a study which led to the approval of Adderall XR capsules). This understanding of how medication studies are done helps me evaluate the research data of new medications, informing my decisions for which medication is appropriate for a given patient. I graduated from New York University School of Medicine. This included training at Bellevue Hospital, a legendary Manhattan hospital. There I was given responsibilities not afforded to students who trained at only private hospitals. I was taught that it is my deep obligation to know everything about diagnosing and treating a patient's illness. I often identify other medical illnesses and refer to appropriate specialists. I strive for a good work/life balance, and enjoy playing tennis several times per week. I am also a musician, playing guitar, singing and songwriting, and have performed in many bands. These activities outside of work keep me refreshed and ready to dig in to each case with renewed interest and attention. I enjoy meeting patients for an initial evaluation, getting to know the person, not just eliciting symptoms. Follow up sessions are 30 minutes, which gives me time to assess medications as well as exploring a patient's life in a non-intrusive, non-threatening way. I am married and have two adult children, so know the joys and tribulations of family life!"
This content was provided by Dr. Sternberg "I work in a collaborative style, have excellent listening skills and am compassionate. The proper diagnosis is a critical starting point in prescribing treatment. Medications are chosen carefully in a thorough discussion with the patient. Having been a primary investigator in many clinical trials and in practice for 30 years, I understand the benefits and possible side effects of medicines. My education from Stanford University and New York University Medical School provides a sound background."
