This content was provided by Dr. Smith Epilepsy is a pretty common illness. About one percent of the population has epilepsy. And so there's a lot of people with uncontrolled epilepsy that we try to make better. We try to get their seizures stopped so that they can have a full and normal life. Epilepsy is both a disease - that is the seizures themselves - and also all the psychosocial stigmata that go with the illness. And so frankly people are scared to death of epilepsy. And if your child had a seizure, you'd think the child is dying. And it's a very emotional, wrenching time. And so education is a very important thing. A lot of the times, it's just teaching the parents and the loved ones that things can be ok.
