Dr. Skardasis' bio

This content was provided by Dr. Skardasis "Work History Dr. Skardasis is grew up in Atlanta, GA where he went to highschool. He graduated from the University of Georgia with his Bachelors of Science. He went on to get his medical degree from the prestigious Emory University School of Medicine. He completed two years of general surgery training at Emory and then and went on to complete his Internal Medicine Residency at Emory. At that time, he considered Grady Memorial Hospital his second home working in both the surgical/trauma and medical zones in the hospital. He was also able to expand his depth of medical knowledge by spending time at the Atlanta VA Medical Center, Emory University Hospital and Emory midtown. His years of training are some of his most fondest memories. After completing residency, he began work at the Kaufmann Clinic, where he saw patients in both Midtown and Woodstock areas of Atlanta. After that he went on to work as a hospitalist at Wellstar Kennestone hospital where he met Erin and decided to settle down and get married. After marrying Erin, he spent the last 12 and ½ years at North Georgia Internal Medicine. Here learned to love his relationships with his patients in not just their medical history but in their personal lives as well. Fun facts about Dr. Skardasis He grew up Greek American and learned to speak Greek as a child going to Greece. His given name is Michael but has gone by the Greek name for Michael "Mihali" most of his life. His father is a vascular surgeon and is still practicing vascular surgery in his 80's. When he finished medical residency, he took off to Wyoming for a 2 week backpacking trip with the National Outdoor Leadership School(NOLS) Here he developed a passion for nature. Before he met his beautiful wife Erin, Mihali was busy learning how to sail. He bought a boat and use to have it at Lake Lanier. The winds were alway hit or miss at the lake so he decided to sell his boat. He dabbled in golf here or there but then decided to try out rock climbing. He was fortunate to have met several accomplished climbers who were gracious enough to mentor him in his climbing. He has been on climbing trips in the places such as Yosemite, Joshua Tree, the Wind River Range, throughout the South East. He learned how to ice climb and spent a days climbing the Mountain Washington in New Hampshire in the middle of February and decided that mountaineering was a little too cold for him. As if climbing was not enough, he decided to take up bicycle racing with the encouragement of one of his climbing buddies. He raced bicycle racing for approximately 3 years but decided to stop after a few crashes knowing he had the responsibility of being a husband and father. He has been married for 12 and ½ years and has 2 children. Dr. Skardasis was a bachelor until he was 40 so being married with 2 kids was new life for him which has brought both tears from challenges and joy in his life. He has a strong faith in his God and attends North Point Community Church with his family and also serves on the parking team. He enjoys time exercising. Once in a while you can find him on the streets of Roswell cycling or walking/running the trails at Leita Thompson Memorial Park. Dr. Skardasis enjoys his time with his family being husband and father. He loves watching his kids compete in sports and attending their local drama shows. He loves family movie night and game night. He treasures vacationing with his family whether to the beach or a family ski trip."

Care Philosophy

This content was provided by Dr. Skardasis "Optimal Performance Medicine is a traditional internal medicine.

Dr. Skardasis treats patients with high blood pressure, high cholesterol and type 2 diabetes.  He started teaching his patients how to fuel their bodies correctly and they began coming off medications. Dr. Skardasis wants to be known as the "doctor who takes you off medicine"

As we age, we have more and more responsibilities. After a long day of work, we come home and have to be there for our spouses and children. More and more Americans are burning out from their jobs and have nothing left for their families. They begin to gain weight, stop exercising, and the next thing they know, they have gained 20 to 40 lbs and have now been diagnosed with high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes.

Optimal Performance Medicine wants to prevent this. We want to teach you how to create health and offer you the tools and resources that you may not have heard of to enhance your wellbeing and performance in everyday life."

Patient Comments (4)

Dr. Skardasis is very low key but very, very competent and professional. If you are looking for a hand holder or a doctor that is willing to hear about your second cousin's cat he's not your man. If you're looking for a highly confident doctor who doesn't waste time make your appointment now.

Dr. Skardasis is not very engaging when you see him for a visit. And in my case, every visit i feel that I am in a timeshare presentation with his sales pitch for his 'wellness program'.

I remember this patient. Interesting that I was given 1 star but 3 to 4 stars in other categories. I was focused on treating this patients problem with lifestyle changes but this patient wanted the quick fix with a medication.

My experience is that Dr. Skardasis is always in a hurry and anxious to leave the room and get on to the next patient. I'm not entirely sure he doesn't have a schedule that is too booked. He's friendly and professional but detached. I couldn't recommend this practice.

Reasonable wait time. Staff is friendly and helpful. His nurse is great. Dr. Skardasis listens, doesn't rush, and makes me feel like he truly cares about my health.
