This content was provided by Dr. Rafii "Michael Rafii, MD, PhD, is a board-certified neurologist and director of the Adult Down Syndrome Clinic at UC San Diego. As an associate professor in the UC San Diego School of Medicine, Dr. Rafii leads multiple research programs studying the link between Alzheimer’s disease and Down syndrome. Dr. Rafii previously served as director of the Memory Disorders Clinic at UC San Diego Health, medical director of the Alzheimer’s Disease Cooperative Study (ADCS) and director of the UC San Diego Neurology Residency Program. His book, First Aid for the Neurology Boards, now in its second edition, is one of the most widely used books in preparation for the Neurology board examination. He completed a fellowship in dementia and cognitive disorders at UC San Diego. He completed his neurology residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he was chief resident. He received his medical and doctorate degrees from Brown University School of Medicine and conducted neurogenetics research at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Rafii is board-certified in neurology. He serves on the National Task Group on Intellectual Disabilities and Dementia Practices of the American Academy of Developmental Medicine and is co-editor of the textbook Common Pathogenic Mechanisms between Down Syndrome and Alzheimer's Disease: Steps toward Therapy. Dr. Rafii received the Star Award from the Down Syndrome Association of San Diego for his efforts to improve the lives of people with this condition. In addition, Dr. Rafii holds a joint appointment at the University of Southern California."
