Care Philosophy

My moto for my practice is "Your health on your terms". I learn what your concerns are as we talk and take our time working through the various issues of your health, mainly the gynecologic concerns, but also your whole health, from physical to emotional well-being. I discuss your concerns and engage you to express them and I respond by addressing each of your concerns in the clearest language possible. Of course, an exam is often needed with appropriate testing and ultrasound as indicated. Ultimately, my goal is to provide you the care that I would hope would be provided to a family member of mine.

Biography

I am Board-Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and I am a Fellow in the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. I finished my four year residency in OBGYN in 1986 and have since been in private practice, mainly in Oregon. I graduated from medical school in 1982. Between graduation from college in 1970 and starting medical school in 1978, I actually worked in environmental and economic development planning for several years before deciding that being a doctor was my true calling in life. So I was an older student in medical school and I had the maturity to get the most out of it. I have witnessed first hand the landmark changes in healthcare of women with the major advances being in laparoscopic surgery, ultrasound and genetic screening.I have years of experience in women's health, initially practicing obstetrics as well as gynecology. I focus on all aspects of gynecology from routine conditions to very advanced surgery.I am also tremendously interested in the whole person, all of the parts of health and I help women find the best avenues of evaluation and treatment available. I also spend the time needed to get at all of the concerns of my patients. My goal is to treat every patient as I would expect a member of my family to be treated. This integrated approach to my medical practice and life is an out-growth of my basic values in the importance of health and physical and emotional well being. Dr. Lee was very eager to help me in any and every way that he could. He was very happy to answer my questions. I felt very comfortable and confident with his knowledge and skill set. He went above and beyond to make me feel taken care of! His scribe was very kind and personable too. I'm so happy I finally found my gyno! Thank you for everything Dr. Lee and staff!!

Dr. Lee takes the time to listen to you and then talk. He is patient, courteous, and a great bedside manner. I trust him with all my gynecology needs.
in Portland, OR |
I was surprised Dr. Lee spent so much time listening to me and asking questions. Usually I feel like I'm shuttled in and out of a dr. apointment. Thank you for caring.
Thank you for your kind thoughts.

Please do not go to Dr. Lee. Please, for the love of god, just say no.
I would sure wish that Linda would directly contact me and let me know what bothered her about my care of her. I do not pretend to be perfect but I do try to understand and give my best effort at all times. Obviously, something went wrong and I would like to make it right in whatever way possible. I would appreciate hearing from Linda or anyone else and I can be reached directly at drmichaeljlee@leegynecology.net

I came to the appt on time & had to wait for almost 1 hour to see Dr. Lee. I felt he was rushed & wasn't sensitive to listening to my issues. He diagnosed me with an extreme form of bacteria infection and thankfully I had the hindsight to ask him to take a culture sample to confirm...and results came back to not as bad of an infection. However he had prescribed a very strong antibiotic that's causing some serious allergic reaction. I've consulted w/another Dr & advise to stop taking the drug
I am sorry for the inconvenience of having to wait so long to be seen. Then you felt rushed and I appeared insensitive to your concerns. Then you felt a disconnect between the severity of your infection and the antibiotic prescribed. All of this was undoubtedly a result of not having enough time with you to explain the rationale behind my decision-making. This will not happen again in my new practice which I started January 1, 2017. Also, please see my practice care philosophy on this website.

Since all gynecologic surgeons vary in their training, experience, types of surgical techniques for a given condition, numbers of procedures performed and numbers and types of complications, I will express my "expertise in procedures performed" in those terms: Having training in the most traditional of approaches to all gynecologic surgery from my residency training in the early 1980's, I have an extensive foundation and years of experience in all aspects of gynecologic surgery. With the development of laparoscopy in the early 1980's, I have done over a thousand laparoscopies involving treatment of all conditions (except for known cancers) including hysterectomy. Thankfully, my complication rate has been extremely low and my rating for managing very difficult conditions is very high (hospital statistics comparing gynecologic surgeons available on request). The range of my experience beyond laparoscopy involves all minor and major types of gynecologic surgery.
