This content was provided by Dr. Charlton "Dr. Michael T. Charlton, is a proud San Antonio native with over 28 years of active duty experience in the United States Air Force. He graduated with academic distinction from the United States Air Force Academy in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and received his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland in 1998. Dr. Charlton spent a year as a flight surgeon in Guam where he performed helicopter search and rescue missions with the United States Navy and Coast Guard. He then completed his Orthopedic Surgery Residency at Wayne State University/Detroit Medical Center in 2005 followed by a Fellowship in Orthopedic Traumatology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center/Parkland in Dallas, Texas in 2007. He was Chief of Orthopedic Trauma at the San Antonio Military Medical Center where for 9 years he treated countless military and civilian trauma patients and served on the faculty of the orthopedic surgery residency program. Dr. Charlton founded the South Texas Orthopedic Specialty Group in 2008, where he remains the President and managing partner of the newly renamed Alamo Orthopedics. Dr. Charlton provides a full range of adult and pediatric orthopedic services to include surgical and nonsurgical treatment of musculoskeletal trauma, including complex joint injuries, nonunion/malunion, geriatric fractures, and fractures of the pelvis and acetabulum. He also has extensive experience in primary and revision joint replacement surgery, including those referred for post-operative complications secondary to trauma, infection, or mechanical loosening. "
