Dr. Michael Baraga, MD
Michael G. Baraga, MD, a sports medicine specialist and surgeon, is an assistant professor with UHealth Sports Medicine, a division of the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. The division is the official sports medicine provider for the Miami Hurricanes, Miami Marlins, and U.S.A. Sailing. A native of Puerto Rico, Dr. Baraga graduated from the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus. He then went on to earn his medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus. He completed an internship and residency in Orthopaedic Surgery right here in Miami at Jackson Memorial Hospital/Jackson Medical Center. Most recently, he completed his fellowship in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh where he worked with athletes of all levels, from local high schools to the Pittsburgh Steelers, among others. Dr. Baraga specializes in knee and shoulder surgery, including ACL reconstruction with all graft types, including the quadriceps tendon graft. He also specializes in ACL revision surgery, knee dislocations, and patellar instability surgery. His research focus has been on ACL injuries, including work on ACL graft healing, treatment of partial tears, and individualized surgery. A self-proclaimed "weekend warrior," Dr. Baraga understands the frustration arising from injuries that prevent patients from participating in the activities they enjoy. He believes each patient should be treated as an individual, by taking into account his or her personal goals. By incorporating them into the treatment plan, he feels he can work together with his patients to get them back to their full potential. Dr. Baraga also serves as Team Physician for the University of Miami Men's and Women's Basketball Teams, Women's Soccer Team, and the Miami Marlins. He is also Director of the Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship Program and Associate Orthopaedic Residency Program Director. Dr. Baraga sees patients at the Lennar Foundation Medical Center in Coral Gables, UHealth at Plantation, and Jackson Memorial Hospital.

There are many doctors and surgeons in our country today, but not all are created equal. This is my story. I had a major distal bicep tendon tare due a sports injury. What makes Dr. Baraga special is that he went the extra mile for me for something that he did not have to do. Several months before I tore my bicep I had a $2000 dollar Koi tattoo half sleeve done on the same arm as the injury. What Dr. Baraga did was amazing, he cut along the scales of my Koi fish and completely concealed the scar

I highly recommend Dr.Baraga! I have worked with him on two occasions and he has been amazing. He is super helpful and really listens to what the patient wants as well what he thinks is best. He focuses on making the patient comfortable with what the treatment will be and is happy to answer any question you may have.

I would highly recommend Dr. Baraga! He is extremely professional and caring. He answered all my questions regarding my upcoming surgery at made me feel extremely at ease. After my surgery, I got excellent results and he was also very helpful with answering all my questions during the follow up appointment. Overall, a great surgeon and a kind person!
