Dr. Amster's bio
This content was provided by Dr. Amster "Pain management is a fascinating, ever changing field. I believe it's one of the last frontiers of medicine: understanding how pain works and how to manage it. As a pain management specialist, I'm able to provide continuity of care for patients. I enjoy developing a close relationship with each of my patients. I see them about every month or so. Unfortunately, our society has a lot of misunderstandings about what chronic pain is. Chronic pain is something that doesn't affect you just physically, but emotionally and spiritually. That's why it's really important to have a physician that understands you. My patients describe me as down-to-earth and approachable. I'm easy to talk to. My style is very informal, and I really appreciate connecting with people on a personal level, knowing about their lives and families. I'm not interested in prescribing drugs and getting people out the door. My practice is unique because I'm one of the only doctors in the group that treats children. I also perform surgical interventions, such as spinal cord stimulation. I've very interested in the latest technologies and advancements in chronic pain. I also have an advanced certificate degree in meditation teaching. Meditation and mindfulness practice can help patients work with pain. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my children. In my spare time, I lead a group meditation, I teach yoga and I'm a river raft guide. I swim everyday and I'm on a swim team."
