Merryl Schechtman, MD, FAAP is board certified in General Pediatrics and in Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics. She obtained her BS from Wagner College and 32 post baccalaureate credits at the NYU Graduate School of Arts and Sciences in Microbiology. She received her MD degree from the University of Bologna, Italy, in 1985 and completed pediatric residency and developmental/behavioral pediatric fellowship at the Schneider Children's Hospital of Long Island Jewish Medical Center in 1990. Dr. Schechtman worked at the Developmental Disabilities Center of St. Luke's/ Roosevelt Hospital upon graduating fellowship. She subsequently became Asst. Medical Director of St Mary's Hospital for Children. In 1996, she joined the Einstein faculty as attending developmental pediatrician at the Children's Evaluation and Rehabilitation Center of the Rose F. Kennedy Center where she spent the next 18 years. She directed the Early Intervention Training Institute and also taught residents and precepted fellows. She has a special interest in the treatment of autism. Dr. Schechtman sees patients at Grasslands Rd Valhalla as well as at the Children's Rehabilitation Center in White Plains. She is a fellow of the AAP and the Society for Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics. She is a member of the American Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine, the American Association for Intellectual Disabilities, the International Society for Autism Research and is a section member of the Council on Children with Developmental Disabilities of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She has two daughters and enjoys swimming, kayaking, traveling, reading and opera.
