Mehrdad Michael Massumi, MD, FAAPMR, DAAPM is a board-certified physiatrist (specialist in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation). He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, a Diplomate of the American Academy of Pain Management and a Member of the Harvard Medical School Postgraduate Association. He has been named by Baltimore Magazine as one of the metropolitan areas 'Top Docs' (a peer-reviewed survey). He graduated with honors as a physician from The University of Birmingham Medical School in Birmingham, United Kingdom (a top 10 UK and top 100 world university). After successfully concluding internship in England and two years of surgical residency training at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. he was admitted to the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle (a top 30 world university). He successfully concluded his residency in Rehabilitation Medicine in 1988. Dr. Massumi has been in practice for twenty-nine years in the Baltimore metropolitan area. He was the founder or co-founder / director of many clinics and services at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center, the Union Memorial Hospital and the Carroll Hospital Center. He has been a consultant in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation to many other area hospitals as well. He is a former adjunct clinical faculty of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Johns Hopkins Medical School. He is currently in private practice and sees patients at his clinics in Towson, Maryland and recently also at his newly established office in Rockville, Maryland. In the first half of his practice in Baltimore Dr. Massumi lectured and provided hospital based services in the diagnosis and physiatric (physical medicine & rehabilitation) management of acute and chronic injuries of the nervous and musculoskeletal systems and chronic pain syndromes. He currently provides similar services through his own private clinic. In his twenty-nine years of practice of Physiatry and Pain Management Dr. Massumi has treated over 14,000 patients. He is referred patients from community and hospital based physicians of all specialties as well as nurses, physical therapists, pharmacists and other allied healthcare providers. Patients are from Maryland, other States and internationally.
