He is a great Dr and he will do anything in his power to help control your pain. I had 4 spinal injections and on the 4th I was finally able to start living again. Dr. Shokat gave me my life back...for that I will be forever grateful. But don't go to him if you just want pain pills because he is not that kind of Dr. He will make you angry if that is the only assistance you want from him.

I am a physician myself and have used Dr, Shokat for injuries to my knee, chronic and acute muscular issues in my neck, and low back pain. He is very professional without being cold and clinical, and has done very comprehensive evaluations by way of his interviewing skill and physical exams. He has multiple modalities of treatment that he can offer, not just narcotic prescriptions. I work at a drug and alcohol treatment facility, and see the consequences of addiction. His work is top notch!

Dr. Shokat says...

Max Shokat, D.O. is a dual board certified fellowship trained interventional pain specialist who specializes in the non-operative treatment of pain.  As a doctor of osteopathic medicine, Dr. Shokat practices a 'whole person' approach to patient care. He is skilled in the use of osteopathic manipulative medicine, a hands-on approach to help diagnose and treat illness and injury. He utilizes multiple treatment modalities and the most advanced pain treatments to maximize his patients' pain relief.  His overall goal is to improve function and the quality of life for his patients.

Dr. Shokat began his education at the University of Florida with a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering.  He worked in the private sector before pursuing his medical degree.  Dr. Shokat received his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey School of Osteopathic Medicine. He then obtained his specialty training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation from the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia.  Dr. Shokat then continued to further subspecialize in interventional pain through a fellowship at the University of Florida Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Institute.

Dr. Shokat is a member of the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians as well as the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.  Dr. Shokat has conducted valuable research and has been published in professional journals.

Dr. Shokat says...

Dr. Shokat is an expert in treating various pain conditions in a diverse patient population, whether it is someone with a newly herniated disc with sciatica pain that can be resolved with an epidural injection or someone with multiple medical problems and chronic pain complaints that requires skillful medication management and periodic interventions to control their pain in the safest and most economical manner possible.

Dr. Shokat does not solely focus on injections or medications but utilizes all treatment options in finding the best treatment plan for his patients.

He is skillful with using his hands to help diagnose problems and conditions rather than simply looking at imaging and diagnostic tests that can often lead to misdiagnosis and overly invasive treatments.

As a physical medicine and rehabilitation physician with a subspecialty in interventional pain he is specifically trained to treat a wide variety of medical conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord, nerves, bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, and tendons.  The focus on treatment is function.  He has a broad medical expertise that allows him to treat disabling conditions throughout a person's lifetime.  He can diagnose and treat pain as a result of injury, illness, or disabling conditions and determine a comprehensive treatment/prevention plan.  Dr. Shokat can lead a team of medical professionals, which may include physical therapists, occupational therapists, and physician extenders to optimize patient care and work with other physicians, which may include primary care physicians, neurologists, orthopedic surgeons, and many others to treat the whole person, not just the problem area.

Please call us or email us if you have any concerns.  We would appreciate an opportunity to remedy any issues, if possible.

As a specialty pain center we perform thorough evaluations and give comprehensive treatment plans for various pain complaints for a diverse patient population.  We offer numerous treatment modalities to include interventions and both opioid and non-opioid pain medications.  We may offer chronic opioid treatment for patients with specific problems that have tried other conservative treatment options that have failed.  Please note that not all patients or problems are appropriate for chronic opioid treatment regardless of whether these medications were prescribed by other providers in the past.  We also must monitor for compliance to our treatment plan and withdraw opioid therapy when medically necessary.  Therefore, we can not guarantee that every patient will be satisfied with our services.  We also work very hard to serve our community and offer treatment to patients that are often turned away by other practices.  Please take this into consideration when reviewing feedback.

We thank you for your support.
