I had a very painful inguinal hernia and was able to get in quickly for an appointment to see Dr. Schultzel. I was then scheduled for surgery two weeks later. I checked into the hospital in the morning and Dr. Schultzel had me back home by mid-afternoon. It’s now seven weeks later and I’m almost back to 100%. Can't say enough about him and his team...very professional and friendly. Highly recommend Dr. Schultzel for hernia repair.

Dr. Schultzel is an accomplished professional with great bedside manner. I had issues with hemorrhoids. Dr. Schultzel diagnosed and set up a plan over the next months to remedy the situation. He minimized any discomfort both physically and psychologically. He told me what to anticipate as for as discomfort. Dr. Schultzel is an excellent healthcare provider and I would highly recommend Dr. Schultzel!

I trust Dr. Schultzel's skill as a surgeon and his judgement as a doctor. He advocated tirelessly on my behalf to ensure that a top-rated Urologist was present when he surgically repaired my perianal fistula. The result was more than I could have hoped for. He also performed robotic hernia surgery with outstanding results and no post-surgical complications. I would enthusiastically recommend Dr. Schultzel to anyone requiring colorectal, robotic, or general surgery.

Dr. Schultzel and his team are the absolute best at what they do and I couldn't be happier with the experience I had with them. You can tell right off the bat how incredibly well run his practice is and how thorough he is as a doctor / surgeon. He and his team lived up to all the glowing reviews I read about them before coming into his practice and I would highly recommend them to anyone. I ended up needing to have an umbilical hernia repair surgery and Dr. Schultzel did an amazing job from start to finish. It was the first surgery I had ever undergone and I could not be more thankful that he was my surgeon. While obviously nerve-racking to have to undergo surgery, you want to know that you are going to be in great hands and frankly Dr. Schultzel is the the one you want, bar none. He is a true professional and one of the nicest doctors you will ever come across.

Dr. Schultzel and his team provided me with expert care and engaging bed side manner when I approached him about my hernia. I've had a hernia for 4 or 5 years and it progressively grew to the point where my belly button was completely pushed out and was draining me emotionally, mentally and of course physically. I had seen 2 doctors in LA and they were no help and or tried to sell me a gastric bypass. Upon moving to San Diego in April, I found Dr Schutzel and the great reviews of his practice and outcome record. When I had my first appointment we discussed many different questions I had and there were solutions or starting points for everything. Upon looking at my hernia, he said, thats an incisional hernia, a large hernia. It probably won't be outpatient, but we can and should do it. He was adamant that I have a few tests done so they know what the status was before surgery. Turns out my colon and omentum was hanging outside my abdominal wall. Surgery day came and it was fas

Who wants to talk about or deal with rectal surgery? No one! But since I had to, I feel so fortunate to have been referred to Dr Schultzel by my primary care physician. Being part of the Scripps family of surgeons, I expected excellent care. What I did not expect was such a kind and warm-hearted person behind the incredible technical skill. The care and kindness I received from Dr Schultzel along with his wonderful office staff was excellent. I only wish a friend who had a similar procedure with not-so-great results elsewhere would have able referred to Dr Schultzel. Thank you for your excellent care. It's so nice to have my life and comfort back. I will sing your praises to everyone!

I was very late in getting my first colonoscopy (age 64) and they removed a very large polyp (along with several smaller ones) that the pathology report said was pre-cancerous. The pathologists also said there might be cancer in the colon at the site of the polyp. The recommendation was to have a colon resection. I was referred to Dr. Schultzel's practice and am very glad I was. He and his team were really fantastic. He communicated clearly what he saw as the options and recommended robotic surgery to remove a small section of the colon. He explained the procedure clearly and in detail and answered all of my questions. His team shepherded me through the entire process. He/they explained what the surgical process would most likely entail (while indicating things vary) and it turned out pretty much exactly as they outlined. They have also been really great with the follow-up. I highly recommend Dr. Schultzel and his team.

I have been suffering from rectal bleeding off and on and it became worse in mid-2020. Dr. Matthew Schultzel is the doctor I consulted. Consultation with his PA Katelyn Harding went very well while she asked questions about my medical history. The evaluation conducted afterwards by Dr. Schultzel was quick and painless, after which he explained the options I had to correct my situation. He suggested a more conventional method where I had to apply a compounded cream to mitigate the fissure or a surgery. I chose the conventional method first and he explained that if that did not work that he will perform surgery. Dr. Schultzel is a natural communicator, he listens attentively and shares his ideas in a clear and logical manner. He maintained eye contact and responded to all my questions appropriately. He ended up performing surgery, my bleeding has stopped and now my quality of life has vastly improved. His health care team is at the top of their game to make sure their patients get well!

I wish I’d gone to Dr. Schultzel for my hernia surgery the first time. He is clearly the better surgeon and his actions show he cares about his patients. Instead, I went to UCSD. After the initial visit/sales pitch, I did not see my surgeon again. At each of my two post-ops, some other doctor told me the bulge would go away or it was normal. The bulge got bigger until it became undeniable that the surgeon whiffed and I would need a second surgery. I knew the odds got worse each time. I was scared. A friend referred me to Dr. Schultzel. The first visit was night-and-day different. He answered all of my questions. He explained exactly what would happen. He didn’t shy away from hard questions or explaining the risks. Dr. Schultzel visited with me and my wife right before the surgery. He visited with my wife immediately afterwards. He visited with me when I woke up. And I saw him at all three of my follow up visits. I’m completely healed and active again.

Dr. Schultzel did not speak to my mother before surgery. He also didn't visit her after surgery to let her know what he found or how the surgery went. Prior to discharge, she saw him speaking with another MD and was able to ask a few questions, but she had to approach him. At the end of August, my mother was still in pain so she called and made an appointment to see Dr. Schultzel. His office called and canceled it, rescheduling her for the end of September. A day before her appointment they called and canceled again, this time pushing her appointment out to February 2021, 5 months away! She's seeking support from a medical professional who performed surgery on her just months prior yet it's met with disregard.

Dr. Matthew Schultzel is the BEST! For years I suffered with issues "down there" but was way too embarrassed to see a doctor, or even talk about to anyone. Unfortunately, my symptoms kept worsening over time and I knew I had to seek help. I did my research for the best specialist in San Diego and luckily found great reviews of Dr. Schultzel. From my first visit, Dr. Schultzel was extremely understanding and kind about my situation. He developed a plan which we went on to complete after about a year of various procedures and treatment. I am happy to say that I have made a full recovery and no longer bothered by those symptoms I had for YEARS that were absolutely diminishing my quality of life day to day. I highly suggest if you are dealing with ANYTHING "down there", please schedule an appointment to see Dr. Schultzel so you can get on the road to recovery rather than sacrificing your quality of life and peace of mind like I did for years and years. Thank you Matthew!
