Dr. Root's bio

This content was provided by Dr. Root "Dr. Root is a Co-Founder of Innovative Pain and Spine Physicians, whose mission is finding the root cause of your pain and treating it appropriately with compassion in order to reduce your pain and maximize your functional capacity. The best of both worlds, Dr. Root is both a physician and a physical therapist. As a result, he is able to integrate his comprehensive knowledge of the kinesiology, anatomy, and musculoskeletal medicine to help reduce your pain and restore your function. Dr. Root is a fellow of the American Academy of PM&R, and specializes in performing Electrodiagnostic (EMG/NCS) studies, which is a diagnostic tool for the following conditions: radiculopathies (pinched nerves in the back & neck), compression neuropathies, and peripheral neuropathies. In addition, Dr. Root is skilled in joint injection therapies, and fluoroscopic spine injection therapies including epidural, facet, and nerve blocks, as well as disrupting the nerve's ability to send pain signals through a radiofrequency ablation or neuromodulation (spinal cord or peripheral nerve stimulation). After graduating with honors with a Master's Degree in Physical Therapy from Quinnipiac University in Connecticut, Dr. Root went on to obtain his medical degree at the Western University of the Health Sciences in Pomona, CA. Dr. Root completed his Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency in Philadelphia, PA at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, a US News & World top ranked hospital in Rehabilitation Medicine and Model Systems Spinal Cord Injury Center. Dr. Root then completed his fellowship training in Santa Barbara, specializing in Interventional Pain and Spine procedures. Following fellowship, he stayed on as faculty and Assistant Director of their fellowship program, where he is respected as a sound clinician and teacher of musculoskeletal medicine, ultrasound-guided peripheral injections, and fluoroscopic-guided spine procedures. He also has been recognized by the Thomas Jefferson University faculty during residency with numerous awards in scholarly work and teaching medical students. He has published in nationally recognized medical journals in the field of PM&R and has presented his research at national meetings, including the American Academy of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine. Dr. Root's work in pain management and injection therapy helps provide relief to those suffering from complicated and debilitating conditions without invasive back or neck surgery. He utilizes treatments that are easy for his patients to manage and fit into their lifestyle and daily activities. Dr. Root is well known for his caring, helpful bedside manner and willingness to help his patients feel relief from painful and sometimes debilitating conditions. He takes the time needed to learn about his patients' goals for recovery and finds the solution to each patient's unique medical condition."
