I visited Dr S. with serious buttock pain, sciatica. X-ray and MRI indicated L2-L3 moderate disk disorder w/ desiccated disk, and L5-S1 antherolisthesis but no disc issues. The only option he gave was fusion of L2-L3 because that spot "causes the pain". He did not recommend any non-surgical approaches prior to that like epidural injections, acupuncture, yoga. He just wanted to *cut*. This is very DISAPPOINTING since the statistics to surgery are sobering. Besides, he MISDIAGNOSED my pain at L5S1

My ACDF x 2 levels surgery was a complete success with Dr. Soumekh. I suffered for ten years. The situation finally became severe and had severe decompression on my spinal cord. Dr. Soumekh couldn't believe I was still functioning and had me in surgery 4 days later. He and his staff were amazing, extremely organized and never dropped the ball. I never had to wonder what was going on. While he is not the biggest conversationalist, and he is very black and white, he saved me.

12 years ago Dr Soumekh performed a c-spine fusion in my c 5 and 6. I have been pain free and able to live and work, lift my grand baby and work on my property these many years since. As many have stated he does not have the most congenial bed side manner but I have been very happy with the results of my surgery.

I wish my mom's PCP did not refer her to this rude and inconsiderate doctor. It was a waste of time going to this doctor because he was not helpful.I asked him if there's other option aside from surgery but his response was no.His bedside manners is the worse in the world. This doctor is very impolite and I feel very uncomfortable talking to this doctor.I'm going to cancel my follow up appointment. With this creep.

Dr. Soumekh removed my brain tumor in 1998, it was an 8 hour operation. I recently wrote a letter to him thanking him for 18 years of life I most certainly would not have had without him. His response to my letter was heartwarming . He is a true technician and cares greatly about his patients. I would trust my life with him any time.

Not good! Rude, pushy. (I'd rather not keep going!)
in San Diego, CA |
Worst doctor in my entire life. He's rude, condescending, and never, never answers any questions you have. He literally ignores what you ask. If something does goes wrong, and you ask, Why didn't you warn me? The answer is; You didn't ask about this. Your care is based upon your own knowledge of what is going on, and what you ask yourself. So therefore, you remain lost. Didn't even get into a waiting room. He talks at you in the hallway! Run, don't walk far away from this creep.

Horrible, horrible experience, that left me questioning how any medical professional could possibly keep a practice afloat with the type of impersonal rudeness. So appalled that I changed my mind about having him do my much needed and long awaited spinal fusion.
in Brawley, CA |
Dr soumekh has been my surgeon for three years now. I have had two surgeries ; 2014 microdiscectomy and in 2015 ALIF (Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion) on L1,L2 thru S1 disk. So far I have had very good care from the doc over the years. My treatment is ongoing due to issues with my back. I have no issues with my past and current care of Dr soumekh.
