This content was provided by Dr. Allison "EDUCATION Dr. Allison started her career in healthcare as a laboratory technologist earning her MT (ASCP) from Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Soon after, she obtained her MD at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. She completed her internship and residency in internal medicine as well as her fellowship in hematology/oncology at Baylor University Medical Center- in Dallas. AREAS OF SPECIAL INTEREST Breast Cancer, Genetic Inheritance Evaluation, Research EXPERIENCE For more than 20 years, Dr. Allison has been practicing as a medical oncologist. In 1993, she joined what would become Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada as a founding member of the largest oncology provider in the state of Nevada. Dr. Allison has also served as Principal Investigator on numerous clinical research studies for breast cancer and helped foster the practice's research affiliation with The US Oncology Network and UCLA. The trials she participated in have changed the standards of breast cancer care and led to the FDA approval of Paclitaxel and Herceptin. Dr. Allison is a member of the breast cancer research committee for The US Oncology Network and participates regularly in the Sunrise Hospital Breast Center Tumor Board. She is co-founder of The Caring Place, a Las Vegas nonprofit organization that provides complementary therapies to cancer patients. Dr. Allison was the recipient of the 2010 Athena Leadership Award through the Women's Chamber of Commerce and inducted into the Women's Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame in 2011. She also received the Healthcare Hero Award for compassionate caregiver in 2011. In 2013, she received the Commitment to Health Award from United Way of Southern Nevada's Women's Leadership Council, and in 2014 she received the Woman of Distinction Award in healthcare from the National Association of Women Business Owners. PERSONAL Dr. Allison and her husband of more than 30 years, have two sons. Her hobbies include running, crocheting and family activities.
