Mark J. Syms is a fantastic surgeon I believe it. He asked qualifying questions. One being what my insurance was. Smirked when I told him AHCCCS now because I lost my job and its insurance. I'm in limbo on my fourth year trying to get disability because I'm unable to work due to severe vertigo, nausea, tinnitus and frequent hospital visits and I'm deaf in one ear and my vestibular nerve was severed, I told him this which should be in his notes. My job's insurance at the time didn't cover one sided cochlear implants back then, Mark Syms told me on this visit that they were approved for it a year ago. Well, now I can't afford it. After previous research and speaking to my father who has Meniere's disease, it appeared to match my symptoms and I found it's the red book of disability coverage. I told Mark Syms this and that I've been to physical therapy unsuccessfully. He told me "No. Figure skaters skate in circles to regain their balance." I told him I jog every day and have a treadmill.

My initial visit with Dr. Syms was extremely informative and his demeanor was very professional. Being diagnosed with Meniere's is truly a life-changing event and I found Dr. Syms answered my questions, explaining what lies ahead. Honestly, my preference is a "no-nonsense" doctor that understands this disease and advises the patient plainly. His staff (PHX only - haven't been to Peoria office) are great and always helpful and caring.

Dr. Syms is among to worse doctors that I have ever visited. He is not personable, and appears to be more interested in "cash" flow that the patient. Dr. Syms is VERY rude and does not show any concern for the patient. I would not recommend this doctor for any ear or hearing issues

I was referred to Dr Syms from another ENT and he warned me about him and his bedside manner. That in itself tells you that other physicians are aware of how he treats Patients. He lacks empathy and does not tell the patient all the details. His office has not called me back and my questions are still not answered. He may be skillful w his work, but he lacks personality and bedside manner. I am not happy with the care and his staff. He has a lot to learn in regards to personal experiences. Once I follow up after surgery, I do not plan on seeing him again.

Dr. Syms was very rude and unsympathetic to how my mom felt after her follow a up appointment. She was trying to ask for an extended leave of absence and he was yelling at us in his office that he couldn’t justify this. Very unprofessional do not recommend. The wait was always long and staff is not efficient when it comes to following up with insurance approvals and appointments. They are just spot on when it come to taking payments.

Major disappointment. I am a cochlear patient and he was my surgeon. I moved out of the area and saw a different doctor due to location . I recently moved back to Phoenix and attempted to see Dr. Syms. I was told that he would not see any patient due to a location change and this was the only reason. This is not a valid reason to refuse to care for me and I consider this discrimination.

terrible! first time i was there and he was rushed , made me feel like i was dumb and wasting his time. he prescribes medicine for my ear - the pharmacist is confused because usually that type medicine is supposed to be for the nose. after not returning the RX's call or my call, he finally responds thru the patient portal and this is all he says : "it's for the nose, we discussed that" . NO, we did not discuss that. just admit it, you made a mistake. even the RX showed me that the prescription was written to be inserted in ear, not nose. and that is just one of the problems with this office.

Extremely disappointed. Had my one year follow up and the next week forgot to ask the doctor for a refill on my prescription. He wouldn't call in a new refill without seeing me again after I just saw him. His office said I would have to make a new appointment again (more copay $'s for him) just to get a new rx.

I had sudden hearing loss in one ear. Got in to see Dr. Syms right away. Dr. Syms was very thorough, as were my series of hearing exams. Dr. Mark Syms is a superior, and very caring specialist. He took the time to answer my questions, and ordered necessary imaging. Thank God for that, because the underlying cause of my sudden, one ear hearing loss was revealed. Now I can get the procedure I need before my condition worsens. I have already recomended him to friends and I will continue to refer others to him. I go to the Sun City West office. If you have hearing loss, or ENT related issues, this should be your specialist. The entire office staff was also polite, helpful, compassionate, and efficient. My experiences as a patient of Dr. Mark Syms exceded my expectations.

I was somewhat apprehensive about seeing this MD after reading some of the negative reviews, but my experience was positive. He was respectful, courteous, knowledgeable, and did not rush the appointment. My only criticism would be the somewhat disorganization of the office staff who kept sending me an obsolete form to fill out, but the doctor was A plus.

The worst Dr. I have ever encountered. He is arrogant and has no empathy whatsoever. There is nothing worse than a Dr. that doesn’t listen to his patients. He is obviously a good surgeon but his lack of patient care makes him a terrible overall Dr.

If you’re okay with someone telling you the pain you’re experiencing in the same spot you just had surgery couldn’t be caused by the surgery and therefore not their problem then choose this guy. Maybe he had a bad day prior to my surgery but he actually made me feel ashamed that I asked for something extra to help with my immediate post op pain. I will not recommend this doctor to anyone, even my enemies.

Having had many Doctors , I have learned to appreciate a Doctor who cares for their patients. Dr Syms is not only a caring person, he takes time to make sure his patients understand their problems with a solution to their illness. Dr Syms is articulate, honest and direct, having a great staff that also is great helps make every visit nice, that's a 10 in my book, thanks again. Guy Romero Jr

I had surgery the Friday before 4th of July and no one told me that the office would be closed the next week. I ran out of meds and couldn't get them refilled and the antibiotic that I was prescribed made me itch so badly that I was unable to take it. the person who answered the phone,Karen, is a scheduler and couldn't help me. needless to say, I have been in a lot of pain without meds. I love Linda and Dr. Syms but there needs to be someone covering when they are gone.

Dr. Syms is a wonderful doctor! He has a great bedside manner, never makes you feel rushed during your appointment, is very intelligent and honestly seems to care about his patients. All of the staff are also great, very caring and helpful. I have never found wait times to be overly long as I have read in other reviews. I feel very fortunate to have been referred to him and would highly recommend him.
