Care Philosophy

My patients are the ultimate decision makers. My role is to let the patient know what is in the textbook, what i saw in my practice, what are the standards of care and what I can offer beyond these standards. I let the patient know my opinion about the steps that need to be taken or remedies to use, but, in most cases, it is up to the patient to chose.

My prescriptions often combine medications with vitamins, supplements, medical food etc

In treatment, we will focus not only on anxiety, mood or addictions, but also on sleep, hormones, sex, appetite, weight, energy level, inflammation etc as they frequently are at the root of the problem. In my view, the best treatment should be integrative, comprehensive and, if possible, holistic

Thanks to the honest, caring professional Dr. Shukman, I am alive and well. He helped to wean me off of the dangerous mind-altering meds, especially that wicked Klonopin prescribed to me by by a previous Psychiatrist who did NOT explain the risks involved and link to suicides. I had suffered the Akathisia so common to benzo usage and nearly ended my life because I could literally not sleep nor stop motor movements physically for weeks due to the non-disclosed effects of the benzos.
Dear Brian, thank you a lot for kind words you found for me. I hope to continue helping you, although at the same time I wish you become well enough not to need me. Thank you again

Truly outstanding. I have been to several of the highest rated psychiatric care institutions in this country, yet have never made as much progress as I have with Dr. Shukhman. His knowledge of psychopharmacology is unparalleled. His persistence and encouragement have helped me turn my life around!

The most dedicated and effective psychiatrist I've seen. He sticks with you and keeps trying medications until he finds the ones that work. Very knowledgeable and not afraid to try different approaches until he is able to bring you relief.

I have been a patient of Dr. Shukhman for several years. He has always been a very caring and concerned doctor. He is very knowledgeable about any questions I have about the latest trends in Psychiatry. The doctor is always on time for my appointments and ready to listen. He has a great sense of humor and seems to be such a kind person. I have witnessed Dr's patients exiting his office with him, laughing and smiling. It's obvious he has a great relationship with his patients. HE'S A GREAT DR!
