Dr. Rollo's bio
This content was provided by Dr. Rollo "It's no secret in Fitchburg that practicing medicine runs in the Rollo family. Dr. Mark Rollo's father was a well-known surgeon who practiced in the Fitchburg area and two of his brothers are also physicians. Unlike his father who was a surgeon, Dr. Mark Rollo decided to become a family practice physician after being a doctor in the Air Force for a number of years. "I thought about becoming a surgeon but deep down I knew that family medicine would be the best place for me. After many years of practicing, I'm certainly glad I made that choice. It's been very rewarding to get to know and treat so many families in this area." One of the aspects of family medicine that Dr. Rollo enjoys the most is the ability to treat all different kinds of patients. During his career he has treated newborn infants to people well into their 90's. "Obviously a young child will have medical issues that are vastly different from someone who is elderly, that's one reason why being a family practice physician is always so fascinating." Dr. Rollo believes each person is a unique creation that is deserving of whatever care he can provide for them, both medical and spiritual. "I think being able to take care of people is really a gift," comments Dr. Rollo. "It is a gift to me to be able to take care of people both physically and spiritually, which is why I enjoy practicing medicine so much." A physician who truly enjoys treating children, Dr. Rollo is married with four children of his own and is also the grandfather of five children. Dr. Rollo enjoys teaching couples on a modern method of natural family planning called FertilityCareTM. This standardized system enables couples to understand when they are naturally fertile and infertile by observing the body's signs or biomarkers in each cycle. This natural family planning method is also helpful in diagnosing women with infertility issues and other gynecological problems. "Although most of what I do in the clinic involves primary care, I find helping couples with natural family planning and its medical applications a very rewarding aspect of my practice." During his spare time Dr. Rollo enjoys running to stay in shape and enjoys playing 60's music on his guitar. A passionate Red Sox fan, he has been attending games at Fenway Park for many years and has garnered quite a collection of Red Sox souvenirs which he loves to display in his office. "I always felt that if you grew up in Massachusetts there was only one baseball team to root for, and that's the Red Sox.""
