For a knee problem I was having, Dr Kowall presented the pluses and minuses of surgical intervention in a consultative manner, neither advocating or admonishing, leaving the decision to me. I had been inclined towards surgical intervention prior to the visit, but after the discussion, decided to forego a procedure -- a decision I remain satisfied with 1 year after the visit. I am an active cycler and swimmer and returned to full activity after a gradual approach of self-directed rehab.
