The other staff here is amazing. Dr Koruda barely explained anything before surgery. He may have spent 5 minutes with me total; this should have been my warning sign. I did not have an understanding of what surgery he was performing, or my diagnosis. I especially, did not know the risks and consequences of the surgery, or it's high failure rate. I don't believe he took the time to fully understand my medical history or the underlying causes of my symptoms. Post surgery, he dismissed all of my concerns, and pain. He frequently told me things that I know now to be untrue. He dismissed me as a patient after I had another doctor order some tests; still maintaining the opinion that the surgery he performed was not the cause of my new, worsening symptoms. Ask questions. Do research. Do not let any doctor make you feel like your concerns are not valid.

Dr. Karuda did a right inguinal hernia repair with no mesh on me 4 days ago. Days 1 through 3 post-op had me experiencing minor pain (2 or 3 on a 10 scale) that I managed with a combo a Ibuprofen and Tylenol (I never filled the narcotic prescription I was given). I was up and walking around from day 1 after surgery and today, day 4 post-op, I woke up with no pain at all and have experienced very minor pain (1 out of 10) today. Thanks, Dr. Karuda!

I was referred to Dr Koruda by my local GI physician for advanced symptoms of ulcerative colitis. He subsequently performed two surgeries and aftercare resolving my disease. Years later Dr. Koruda performed an additional surgery of an obstructed intestine. Although I have competent medical care considerably closer to my home, I travel to Chapel Hill for any GI related issues specifically due to the level of care by Dr. Koruda, his staff and UNC Medical Center.

He recommended an ostomy ... very uncompassionate, offered no details on what it would entail or how it would impact me ..I said it would change my whole life and he said yes. that was it...
