Dr. Mark Kerner specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of all spinal conditions. Treatments range from advanced non-operative interventions to the latest state-of –the- art surgical techniques. Wherever appropriate the most conservative treatments are attempted. In many cases minimally invasive procedures are utilized to speed recovery. In his nearly 20 years of surgical practice he has been a leader in utilizing techniques of both disc replacement as well as fusion. Dr. Kerner takes special interest in the evaluation and treatment of those who have had previous spine surgery who have continuing or worsening pain. Dr. Kerner graduated from Brown University in Rhode Island with a degree in history. He attended the Albert Einstein College of medicine in New York, and completed his orthopedic training there as well , ultimately serving as Chief Resident. He completed a post-graduate fellowship in Spine Surgery at the San Francisco Spine Institute. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons and has been Medical Director since 1995. He is Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Maryview Hospital. He is also Chairman of the Bon Secour Maryview Foundation and active in numerous charitable endeavors.
