After graduating from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1997, Dr. Bickert began his career in the Navy as a commissioned officer. His Naval career started with a General Surgery Internship at Portsmouth Naval Medical Center in Virginia and lasted for four more years; most of that time serving as a Naval Flight Surgeon. The Navy stationed him with the Marine Corp Base, Kaneohe, Hawaii for two years with the heavy Marine helicopter squadron HMH-463. His final duty assignment was with a fixed-wing Navy weapons test squadron in Point Mugu, California (located between Santa Barbara and Malibu). Since the nearest military treatment facility (hospital) was in San Diego, he formed a team with the Otolaryngologists in San Diego to develop telemedicine treatment for the local base clinic for ENT issues. After an Honorable Discharge as a Lt Commander, he entered residency with the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. His ENT – Head and Neck Surgery, Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery training occurred in Joplin, Missouri, at Freemen Health System, McIntire Ear Nose and Throat Center, as well as the Advanced Facial Aesthetic and Laser Center. Residency in Otolaryngology / Facial Plastic Surgery was completed in June 2006.
Dr. Mark Bickert moved to Flower Mound and opened his private practice Lone Star Ear, Nose and Throat Care in 2006. His wife, Deborah, is a native of this area.
He is Board Certified by the AOCOO-HNS in Otolaryngology & Facial Plastic Surgery is also a member of the AAO-HNS, AOA, TMA and TOMA.
In April 2010, Dr. Bickert was selected as Vice Chief of Surgery for the Presbyterian Hospital of Flower Mound.
Mark Bickert, D.O. enjoys beach and ocean activities, traveling, reading and playing with his dog Maedchen (German for "little girl").
