Care Philosophy

This content was provided by Dr. Brown "In this day and age the media and the volume of information that patients are bombarded with is really pretty confusing. So I see myself really as a translator, a navigator, a trusted advisor to sort of make sense of everything that patients hear regarding their health. I've done some research on medication adherence, which is medication-taking behavior and have discovered that patients have some very good reasons for not taking their medications. The most difficult patient for doctors to treat is sometimes the asymptomatic patient - the patient who feels very well. Hypertension is called the silent killer. For years before someone has diabetes, they have no symptoms. So it's very difficult for a patient to take a medicine every single day when whether they take it or not, they really don't feel very different at that moment. So educating the patient and providing them resources will ensure that 5, 10, 15 years from now they're not going to have a stroke or heart attack. We try to compress illness toward the very last few months of one's life, so people stay healthy. It's not something that we're going to expect, that as we age we're going to get more frail or have limitations, quite the opposite. With the tremendous breakthroughs we have now, patients should expect to live absolutely healthy, wonderfully active lives well into their 80s and 90s."
