Dr. Vergara received his bachelor's degree from The Salesiano Juan del Rizzo School in Bogota, Colombia in 1981. He continued his studies at The Javeriana University, Colombia, where he earned his medical degree in 1988. He then joined the Colombian Red Cross in Bogota where he worked as an attending physician in the emergency room. He later relocated to the United States, completing his internship in Internal Medicine from 1993 to 1994. He served his Neurology residency from 1994 to 1997 at the State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate/Kings County Hospitals acting as Chief Resident of Neurology during his last residency year. After his residency, Dr. Vergara did his Neuromuscular Fellowship at the Louisiana State University in New Orleans which he completed in 1998. Since then he has been in private practice with the Lawrenceville Neurology Center. He is Board Certified in Neurology, Epilepsy, Clinical Neurophysiology and Vascular Neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) and has also received his Board Certification from the American Board of Elecrodiagnostic Medicine (ABEM). He is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and a fellow member of the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine.
