Dr. Alvarez is a specialist in physical medicine and rehabilitation. Her main focus is on the nonoperative care of all musculoskeletal and orthopaedic injuries as well as neurorehabilitatis (MS, stroke, spinal cord injuries and brain injuries). Her practice is comprised of inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation.
Dr. Alvarez has a special interest in the treatment of spasticity through the use of botulinum toxins (Botox) and the use of intrathecal baclofen pumps in addition to therapy and orthotics. In addition, Dr. Alvarez has experience in the comprehensive treatment of patients with amputations.
Dr. Alvarez is on staff at Missouri Baptist Medical Center as well as Mercy Hospital St. Louis. She is the medical director for Missouri Baptist Medical Center inpatient Rehabilitation Unit.
Dr. Alvarez received her Doctor of Medicine from Ponce School of Medicine in Ponce, Puerto Rico, and completed her residency and fellowship in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. She has a fellowship in Electrodiagnostic Medicine from UVA.
Dr. Alvarez enjoys cooking, reading and spending time with family.
