I was looking for a geriatrician for my mother when her physician of many years retired. We were familiar with the office because there was a caring cardiologist there. Their bedside manners are polar opposites. After hospitalized, an appt was made for after discharge follow-up. Tele appt as expected. Dr. Kessel directed the discussion asking if there was a living will, desire for resuscitation etc. due to advanced age. Then stated we were done since everything covered. Didn't ask why appt was scheduled, how she was feeling, nothing. Surprising since first interaction EVER. When advised of the existing symptoms with questions, everything was attributed to age with no suggestions for what might help. Once the call ended it felt like a 'why isn't she dead yet?' appt. Not unrealistic about loss of life rate for aged but knew a mistake had been made/wasn't the right doc. More than 1 star given because person who calls to check on her is pleasant, has suggestions and follow up on requests.

This guy was the worst! He barely spent any time with my father before trying to diagnose him with a major disability that no one had ever mentioned before. He made huge assumptions about him based on his age and prescribed medications that he didn’t need. Awful.

I DO NOT recommend Dr. Kessel on Port Royal, he refused to check me for Lyme (I'm a nature educator) and said I just need to stop worrying as soon as he saw it was treated for anxiety. Not only didid I have Lyme, by the time I was able to get evaluated by another doctor, I was in stage 2 and the next year was debilitating. He also couldn't diagnosis poison ivy. He was arrogant, did not listen, then trashed me and the other doctors in practice when I said they were the only ones I want to see.

Dr. Kessel's top priority is to collect money from patients insurance companies. His lack of care and concern about patients is evident when he has a 5 minute talk with patient, then prescribed medicine based on a nurses opinion. If he is your doctor please find a more qualified and caring doctor for your own good health.
