While in college, I became interested in speech, language and the brain. I obtained a Ph.D. in Speech Science/Psychology from Ohio State University, then taught in college awhile but decided to pursue medicine. I wanted to learn more about the brain and help people with neurological disorders.At Ohio State, I worked with delayed auditory feedback (DAF), the phenomenon of hearing your voice back delayed like shouting in a tunnel. I learned that people with speech impediments do better talking with DAF, and became intrigued with the power and plasticity of the nervous system.Read more
