Dr. Laurence Arend was born in Austin, Texas and attended high school there. His attended collete at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, where he was on the deans list. He earned his medical degree from Tulane, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He completed his internship at Charity Hospital and his residencies in internal medicine and pathology with the U.S. Public Health Service in New Orleans. He completed his ophthalmology residency and cornea fellowship at St. John Ophthalmic Hospital in Jerusalem, Israel, and a fellowship in diseases and surgery of the retina and vitreous at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
