Biography

Dr. Lauren Schwartz is a Board-Certified Neurosurgeon. She has additional fellowship training in Pediatric Neurosurgery. Dr. Schwartz has worked in major trauma centers across the country, including Harlem and the South Bronx, and has expertise in all aspects of brain and spine surgery in adults and children. Dr. Schwartz treats patients from all over the United States as well as internationally. She volunteers with international charities to help bring children who need sophisticated neurosurgery to the United States for surgery. Dr. Schwartz teaches residents and medical students and has lectured nationally on many topics in Neurosurgery. She was appointed by the President of the AANS and served on the Ethics Committee for the national neurosurgical association for a 3 year term. She has served as President of the national organization of "Women in Neurosurgery" and continues to work hard to attract the best and the brightest to the field of Neurosurgery through mentorship and leading by example. Dr. Schwartz set out to bring top neurosurgical skills, expertise, and technology to the people of New Jersey so that they can get the best neurosurgical care without having to leave the state. She is proud of promoting and providing this level of care to the residents of New Jersey.

      Dr. Schwartz takes an individualized approach to patient care-- treating each patient as an individual and not just a "disease".  Our practice stresses the importance of communication and individualized care. Dr. Schwartz has extensive experience in treating neurosurgical disease of the brain and spine in both adults and children. She has trained with the top professors in her field and at the top institutions in the world. She has worked in busy metropolitan trauma centers as well as suburban hospitals. Dr. Schwartz teaches residents and medical students and has lectured nationally on many aspects of Neurosurgery.

      Dr. Schwartz has expertise in cranial (brain) surgery including microsurgery of the brain and spinal cord. She has expertise in all areas of adult and pediatric neurosurgery with an emphasis on pediatric brain and spine tumors, craniofacial disorders,brain injury and trauma, hydrocephalus, spina bifida, neuroendoscopy/minimally invasive surgery. adult brain injury, cranial reconstruction, cancer metastasis to the brain or spine, herniated discs, and other brain disorders.

      Dr. Schwartz is also available for prenatal consultation during pregnancy when a neurologic issue is diagnosed. She works with the patient's OB/GYN and Maternal Fetal Medicine to help the family prepare for the birth of a child needing neurosurgical treatment. Dr. Schwartz works with prospective adoptive parents in terms of the evaluation of potential neurosurgical needs of a child who may be joining the family.
